Free printable pumpkin carving template

You can leave with a free template. Generate a stencil from a photo or a sample, then download the watermarked PNG and print it. The paid print pack is for when you want a clean high-resolution file and a PDF that is actually sized to the pumpkin.

Make this stencil

Free PNG versus the print pack

The free file is a lower-resolution PNG with a pumpkinstencilmaker.com watermark across it. It is enough to test a design on a small pumpkin or to decide you like the face before you pay. It is generated on your device. There is no account.

The print pack is a one-time $4.99 digital download: a higher-resolution PNG without the watermark, and a PDF. You pick small, medium, or large (about 5, 7, or 9 inch carving faces) and US Letter or A4. The second page is the legend and the carving steps: cut, shave, keep, tools, and the order to work in. Checkout is a single payment, not a subscription. If the file will not open, the refund policy covers 7 days.

Print settings that keep the size honest

Open the PDF and print at 100% scale, portrait, actual size. The settings that ruin a stencil are Fit to page, Shrink oversized pages, and 'scale to fit paper.' Those make a 7 inch face into whatever the driver feels like. If you are using the free PNG, set the print size yourself. A 512 pixel preview is not a 7 inch document until you tell the printer how big to draw it.

A large 9 inch stencil is wider than A4's printable width, so the PDF scales it down and says so on the page. Pick medium if you need the printed inches to match a 7 inch face on A4. Letter paper fits 7 inches comfortably and fits 9 inches only with slim margins. The PDF does that math.

  • Paper: plain printer paper is fine. Tape the edges so it does not shift.
  • Transfer: push pin, nail, or toothpick along every black and gray edge.
  • Optional: score the lines with a dried-out ballpoint if poking is slow.
  • Do not soak the paper. Wet paper stretches the face.

After it is on the pumpkin

Scoop the seeds and thin the wall to about an inch where you plan to shave. Saw black regions first so you still have plenty of pumpkin to hold. Shave gray regions with a scraper, clay loop, or the bowl of a spoon. Check with a light inside before you go thinner. White regions stay. Bridges drawn by the tool are not mistakes.

Questions

Is the free template really free?
Yes. The watermarked PNG does not require payment. The $4.99 charge is only for the HD PNG and the sized PDF.
What paper size should I use?
US Letter if you are in the US or Canada. A4 everywhere else. Pick it in the tool before you download the PDF.
The printout is smaller than I expected.
The dialog probably scaled the page. Reprint at 100%. A large stencil on A4 is intentionally reduced so it fits, and the PDF says the printed size.
Can I photocopy the stencil bigger?
You can, but the likeness stretches if the copier does not scale both axes the same. Reprinting the PDF at 100% on a bigger sheet is cleaner.
