Logo pumpkin stencil

A logo is the easiest photo to turn into a stencil and the easiest one to ruin with tiny type. Treat it like a linocut: two tones, thick strokes, almost no detail. The Logo preset starts you there.

Make this stencil

Start from a flat version of the mark

Screenshot the logo on a white background, or export a PNG. Do not photograph a sign at an angle. Perspective bends letters, and bent letters look like mistakes, not a brand. Crop tight so the mark fills the square. Leave a margin of background so the design does not touch the edge of the stencil. That margin is the skin that holds the pumpkin together.

Strokes, words, and invert

If a stroke is thinner than a pencil line on the printed page, it will tear. Lower detail to thicken lines and delete specks. Short words work: a shop name of one or two words, a monogram, a year. A tagline does not. Drop it.

Dark logo on white is the normal case: dark becomes cut or shave, white stays. A light logo on a dark photo needs Invert, or the tool will cut the background and keep the mark as a fragile island. After inverting, check that the letters are the holes and the field around them is skin. Pick background if a photograph of a storefront is still clinging to the mark.

Two tones are usually right for logos. Three tones help only when the brand has an obvious mid color you want to shave, such as an orange fill inside a black outline. Use shave for the fill and cut for the outline, and make sure the outline is still attached to the outer skin.

Using it at a party or a shop window

One pumpkin with a clean mark beats a row of detailed ones. Put an LED inside and set it where people see the silhouette, not the texture. You have a license to carve the file onto a physical pumpkin for a personal party or a one-off display. Do not resell the PDF as a template pack. You also need the right to use the logo itself. The tool does not grant that.

Questions

Why did the letters fill in?
Counters in letters like A, O, P, and R are islands of skin inside a cut. They need bridges or they fall out. The tool adds bridges. If a counter vanished, detail was low enough to treat it as a speck. Raise detail slightly, just until the holes in the letters return, then stop.
Can I carve a QR code?
Please do not. The modules are too small and a carved code will not scan. Carve the word instead.
The watermark is on my logo preview.
The free PNG is watermarked. The paid HD PNG and PDF are not.
